Santa Face

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, (softened)
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Red Icing
  • White Icing
  • Black

Step 1

Preheat oven to 180ºC.

Step 2

In large bowl, beat butter and sugar with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and extracts. Mix flour, baking powder and salt; add to butter mixture 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition. Do not chill dough. Divide dough into 2 balls.

Step 3

On floured surface, roll each ball into a circle approximately 30cm. diameter x 3mm thick. Dip Santa Face & Mustache cookie cutter in flour before each use. Bake cookies on ungreased cookie sheet 8-11 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned. Cool Cookies.

Step 2

Decorate Face

Using piping tip #3 & red icing, fill in hat. Use a toothpick to smooth hat area. Use white icing with star tip to pipe zig zag hat trim, hair and beard. Use black icing with #3 tip to pipe dot eyes and inside of mouth. Use white icing with toothpick to add highlight on eyes. Use red icing with round tip to pipe outline mouth and dot nose. Pat nose slightly flat, using finger.
Step 3

Decorate Mustache Use white icing with round tip to attach mustache cookie to face cookie. Use white icing with star tip to pipe elongated shell mustache.
